Some veterinary clinics in the St. John's area are busy taking calls from concerned pet owners in the wake of a huge recall of pet food. It follows reports that a number of dogs and cats in the U.S. have died of kidney failure after eating the food. There have been no reports of any such deaths in Canada. The food, manufactured by Menu Foods, is available under a wide variety of brand names and sold in stores including Wal-Mart, Dominion and Sobeys. It includes some 60 million cans and foil pouches of so called 'cuts and gravy' food. Some vet clinics contacted by VOCM News say they were busy taking calls all through the weekend from people looking for information, while others have received very few calls.
